The professional hockey world is reeling following the tragic deaths of NHLer Johnny Gaudreau, and his brother, Matthew.
The pair died after they were struck by a vehicle while riding bicycles in their home state of New Jersey Thursday night.
Local media, quoting police, are reporting that they were hit by a suspected drunk driver in Salem County shortly before 8:30 p.m.
Gaudreau’s team, the Columbus Blue Jackets, confirmed the deaths in a post on X.
Gaudreau, 31, a former all star affectionately known as ‘Johnny Hockey,’ spent nine seasons with the Calgary Flames after he was drafted in 2011.
In 2022, he signed a seven-year deal with Columbus.
In a statement, the Blue Jackets say they are shocked and devastated by the tragedy.
