It was a busy day at the Flu Shot Clinic at St. Pius X with people flowing in to get their vaccines.
Suzette Spurrell is the Communicable Disease Control Nurse Coordinator with Eastern Health. She says since the clinic opened at 11 a.m., they’ve vaccinated over 750 people, with more waiting for their turns.

(VOCM’s Kerri Hodder was among those to receive their flu shots.)
Spurrell says the numbers are up considerably from this time last year. In Eastern Health’s public clinics alone, they’ve immunized 16,000 people so far, which is 6,000 more than this time last year.
As for why the numbers have shot up, Spurrell says it’s hard to say. However, it’s their third year of doing the mass clinics, so she feels people are catching on.

Spurrell says people now know the clinics run smoothly. There was talk of a delay in getting the vaccine, which she believes may have prompted people to get out early.
However, Spurrell says the province has enough supply for everyone who wants the vaccine.
