A survivor of the 9/11 terrorist attacks has made a special trip to be in Gander today on the 23rd anniversary of the tragic day.
It was on this day in 2001 the world watched in horror as terror attacks were carried out on the United States.
Four planes were hijacked. Two planes were flown into the Twin Towers in New York, one was flown into the Pentagon in Virginia, and the fourth crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after passengers fought back against the hijackers.
Gordon Huie spoke in Gander as part of a special event on Tuesday.
He survived tower two of the World Trade Centre, lost his sister in tower one, and later that day served as a rescue worker.
Huie says the events of that day are still very fresh in his mind. He has PTSD, and has developed several types of cancer as a result.
Typically, Huie says he always participates in events at ground zero on the anniversary, but not this year.
