Newfoundland and Labrador is reaching into the eastern seaboard of the United States in its quest to open up new avenues of trade and export.
Premier Andrew Furey has been in Boston all week as part of a trade mission exploring opportunities with our American cousins. In addition to historical connections, Newfoundland and Labrador and Boston have a lot in common including the fishery.
Government is going to establish a Newfoundland/Labrador office in Boston to liaise with Massachusetts and other states.
Quebec exports a lot of electricity to the united States but the Upper Churchill contract expires in 17 years and talks are underway between the two provinces on life beyond 2041.
Premier Furey says Massachusetts is well aware that Quebec gets about 15 per cent of its power from Churchill Falls.
He says there are also many other opportunities for partnerships in energy such as hydrogen and wind.
The province will be sharing office space with Global Affairs Canada.
