The Canadian Coast Guard has identified the crewmember believed to be lost at sea earlier this week.
Jocelyn De Varennes, of Quebec City, was an electrical officer on board the icebreaker Vincent Massey.
He was first reported missing Monday morning when the vessel docked in St. John’s, after a search of the ship failed to find him.
That led to an extensive search of the waters off the northeast Avalon, including aircraft and ships, which also proved unsuccessful.
Late Tuesday, the search was ended and the case handed over to the RCMP as a missing person at sea.
De Varennes was a recipient of the Governor General’s Exemplary Service Medal in 2018.
