A local group of filmmakers are looking to give movies back their guts.
Grind Mind are a group of fans and filmmakers learning their craft by doing, and cranking out dozens of horror shorts over the last couple of years.
The group hosted the Nickle Film Festival’s 24-hour Horror Challenge. Shane Mills is a filmmaker with the group. He says as opposed to aspiring to expensive modern-day blockbusters, they are inspired by the work and creativity of classic low-budget horror.
Mills says the grindhouse mentality of just pushing out film after film to get it done has been cathartic for them, and he thinks people are getting burned out on hundred-million dollar movies shot on green screen and interested in getting back to movies with more heart to them.
Their latest project is based on the folktale of the old Hag which premiered last week:
