A member of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is before the courts, charged with assault and causing a disturbance.

The charges were laid in connection with an alleged incident while the officer was not on duty.

The RNC says it cannot comment further until the matter is concluded in court.

The officer is on administrative duty for the time being.
