Photographers flocked to Signal Hill today, to catch a rare sight in this part of the world.
A pink-footed goose landed on the local landmark, ruffling the feathers of some energetic birdwatchers.
On the Newfoundland Birdwatching Facebook group, Bruce Mactavish shared some snaps he caught of photographers taking in the unusual sight. He says “prowess, patience and stealth” were not required as the bird seemed very tame, and possibly tired following its flight.
He cautions to keep the bird safe by giving it lots of space.
Pink-footed geese typically nest in Iceland and Greenland, migrating south across Europe starting mid-September. However, they have been known on rare occasions to travel across the North Atlantic, ending up in Newfoundland or other locations along eastern North America.
