A family physician in the province is looking for solutions to after-hours paperwork for family doctors, a problem he fears may lead to burnout among his colleagues.
The President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association, Dr. Stephen Major, says he spends up to 10 hours a week on paperwork for his clients, most of which is for the federal government.
He questions why family physicians are left with hours of paperwork on top of their regular workload.
“Whether it’s disability forms or off-work forms, there’s a ton of forms on a daily basis that we’re getting,” he says.
“Personally, as a physician, we shouldn’t have to be filling out disability tax credit forms from the federal government, which is very time-consuming.”
