The rain has stopped and the waters are receding in Stephenville after a deluge of rain last night, overnight and this morning.
The Hansen Highway was closed for a period as were other low-lying areas including Noel’s Pond. But in the end, Mother Nature called off the assault.
Stephenville Mayor Tom Rose says the rivers came up very fast this morning, particularly Blanche Brook. Most of the flooding was in the Noel’s Pond area.
Stephenville is no stranger to major flooding. About 100 homes were lost in 2005 when Blanche Brook became a raging torrent.
Rose says the water was very high this morning as the rain stopped. Most of the water comes down from the Lewis Hills.
