It was an all night search, but a pair of hunters are back home safe after getting lost Friday night.
Roger Goobie from the Exploits Search and Rescue described the conditions as treacherous as a 36-year-old, and his 13-year-old son couldn’t find their way back home in the pouring rain.
Members of the Green Bay and Exploits Search and Rescue began the search along with the RCMP through the night before finding the hunters just after 4am.
Goobie believes the rain and darkness were a factor in the hunters going missing.
“The rain and darkness comes up on pretty quick now from daylight to darkness, you only got like a 10-minute window now when it starts to get duckish in the evening. Total darkness falls around you pretty quick,” he said.
“Once darkness and once darkness comes upon you then you’re finding your way becomes sometimes fairly difficult if you’re not used to the area. With the driving sideways rain, that visibility, I know for us driving over that night, visibility was absolutely terrible that night trying to see.”
