The daughter of an American man who lost his life on a dream hunting trip to Newfoundland says she’s developed so many close relationships with the people of Deer Lake that she’s already determined to pay a visit to the province.
Gina Heller’s dad, 77-year-old Eugene Earl Spoon was an avid hunter, who wanted to add moose to his long list of hunting experiences.
He sent his daughters messages throughout his trip, telling them what a wonderful time he was having.
His body was found in the burned out remains of the Driftwood Inn, destroyed by fire just over one week ago.
Heller and her sister both live in California and navigating their personal tragedy has been difficult because of the distances involved.
That’s why the assistance provided to her by Mayor Mike Goosney and others in the community will never be forgotten, in fact, Heller says the interactions she’s had with the people of Deer Lake have been so profound and appreciated, she’d love to pay a visit to Newfoundland.
“I would love to, I want to give the mayor and this wonderful lady a big hug, so I hope that’s in the future, yes.”
