There will be an election for Speaker of the House of Assembly.
Lake Melville MHA Perry Trimper and St. George’s-Humber MHA Scott Reid both filed their papers before Friday’s deadline.
Trimper had been Speaker but was plucked from the office for a cabinet post. He resigned his cabinet position after inadvertently leaving a damaging comment from a conversation with another person on the answer recording of a member of the Innu Nation.
The Opposition Tories have said they will not support him.
Per his responsibilities as Deputy Speaker, Scott Reid has been acting as Speaker of the House until a new speaker could be elected.
Pam Parsons of Harbour Grace-Port de Grave had been considering it but chose not to offer.
The election will be the first order of business of the House of Assembly on Monday.
