Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre is calling on Canada’s premiers to match his request for a cut in provincial sales taxes – where applicable- on new homes under $1 million.
Poilievre wrote the premiers asking them to march his commitment to remove the federal sales tax on new homes under $1 million if elected.
The Conservative leader says taxes and government fees add unnecessary costs to the price of new homes.
He says in Ontario and BC, government charges account for more than 30 per cent of the cost of a new home, with the federal government collecting the biggest share.
He says if the premiers agree, it could result in tens of thousands of dollars in savings to homebuyers.
