The Neighbours in Need Facebook group, run by a Newfoundlander in Alberta to help people in need of items has been temporarily paused following a privacy breach involving information from the Single Parents Association of Newfoundland and Labrador.
SPANL issued an advisory last week indicating that a privacy breach had occurred involving their Christmas Magic Program.
SPANL says the “isolated” breach did not include personal identifying information like addresses or children’s names or other sensitive data. The breach was limited to ten people, all of whom have been contacted or are in the process of being contacted.
The administrator of the Neighbours in Need facebook group, Courtney Barber posted to the site last week indicating the breach involved a picture of an email SPANL shared with them that was shared in a group chat with four people. A photo of names who were signed up for support from both organizations, was shared and then quickly removed, but not before it was saved.
Barber says that incident and number of what she says are false rumours circulating online have caused her to pause the Facebook group for the time being, and an update will be provided once everything is “worked out.”
That hasn’t stopped people frustrated with the latest developments from taking to social media and VOCM Open Line.
