A Labrador publication dedicated to preserving the history and traditions of the region has been provided with $50,000 in funding from the provincial government to mark its 50th anniversary.
Them Days is a quarterly magazine that began as a Labrador Heritage Society project back in 1973.
The initial publication, which was only intended to be a one-off, included stories and memories from seniors in Happy Valley, Rigolet and North West River, collected by retired trapper Isaac Rich.
It proved so popular that a quarterly magazine was established. Doris Saunders was hired as the publication’s founding editor in 1975 and the rest, as they say, is history. Saunders passed away in 2006. She was inducted into the Order of Canada in 1986.
