The Canadian Taxpayers Federation says while the temporary two-month tax break on many essential items is welcomed, they want to see government take tax relief much further.
Franco Terrazzano says the tax holiday will save Canadians “a good chunk of money” during an expensive and financially stressful time, but it doesn’t go nearly far enough.
“Number one, it should be permanent,” says Terrazzano, and “number two, after Ottawa has made life more expensive with all different types of tax increases like carbon tax, payroll tax hikes, alcohol tax hikes, and increases in the capital gains tax just to name a few, the government really needs to go beyond a temporary tax cut to undo some of the pain that it has caused.”
