The Writers Guild of Canada has let AI have a crack at some famous film and TV lines, aimed at proving a point about the value of human writing.
The organization recently put several famous Canadian film and TV lines into AI and challenged it to improve them.
As Executive Director Victoria Shen explains, the results were humorous.
She shares one from the TV show Letterkenny. AI took the line ‘pitter patter lets get at er’ and changed it to ‘quick and slick, let’s get to work.’
The hilarious exercise underscores the importance of having real humans doing the writing, according to Shen.
She says it proves that AI can put together something different, “but it can’t really figure out if it is qualitatively better, and I don’t think it can land a joke like a WGC writer.”
