Provincial wildlife officers are monitoring the activity of a reported black bear in and around Wabush.
Staff are setting up bear traps to try to capture and relocate the animal. They are asking people to stay away from traps if they see them.
In the meantime, officials warn that bears can be dangerous and unpredictable if approached. Quietly back away if you see a bear that has not yet seen you, and try to stay downwind.
If the bear has seen or smelled you – remain calm, avoid eye contact, give it plenty of space to get away and back away from the animal, never run.
