RCMP have arrested and charged a 35-year-old man following a lengthy stand-off with police in Gander last night.
Officers were called to a report of an assault and property damage, and the suspect was identified.
Police responded to the home of the accused at an apartment complex on Bennett Drive in Gander late yesterday morning. RCMP say Dean Rumbolt came to the door, but refused to leave the property and blocked them from getting in.
Officers from Gander and Glovertown stayed outside the building while a warrant to enter was sought. Residents on the same floor of the apartment building where Rumbolt was staying were evacuated as a precaution.
Rumbolt surrendered to police shortly after 7:30 last night and was arrested without further incident.
He was charged with assault, damage to property under $5000, uttering threats, obstructing a police officer and breach of probation.
The investigation continues.
