The provincial government has introduced proposed amendments to the Urban and Rural Planning Act and the City of St. John’s Municipal Taxation Act to better support housing development and affordable housing projects.

The Department of Municipal Affairs says the amendments will help to modernize the legislation and provide greater clarification to municipalities when it comes to planning for housing developments.

The changes to the St. John’s Municipal Taxation Act will allow for tax exemptions to help attract greater affordable housing development projects.
