A Whitehorse man who began walking across Canada last year has finally made it to his last stop, Cape Spear.
Richard Zier-Vogel left the Alaskan -Yukon border March 31, 2018, and walked 500 km. He started again during August of 2018 and made it to Saskatoon. And then eventually began again to make his way here.
Zier-Vogul is no stranger to traveling across Canada. 10 years ago he did it with a bicycle, where he encountered someone who was making the trip by foot. That’s when it became part of his bucket list.
However Zier-Vogel is not walking alone. Towing behind him is a pod that he refers to as his plod pod.
Zier-Vogel says the pod has been his home and shelter during his journey. He fashioned it himself out of a cardboard -plastic material.
He says he is proud of himself for completing his goal and happy that he no longer has to walk tomorrow.
He says the best memories of his walk are from the people he met along the way. He says the kindness of Canadians is far better than the scenery.
Zier-Vogel says after he started his journey he adopted a charity called Little Foot Prints Big Steps.
