Sunday’s storm surge forced the town of Gambo to declare a State of Emergency.
Mayor Darrin Dyke was notified by a resident of Gambo south Sunday morning that the water level in his area had risen so high, it was up to his house.
Dyke took a quick run through town to assess the situation, and it became clear that the incident was not isolated.
Dyke called in the Fire Department and town staff, evacuating about 20 homes and closing a couple of streets as the tides continued to rise.
The mayor says some private property and infrastructure were damaged as a result.
He says a lot of properties saw water levels right up to their homes and sheds, and half of Bayview Road has been washed out.
The State of Emergency is expected to be lifted sometime today.
