The new medical facility going in the old Costco building in the east end of St. John’s will also have a facility to treat people whose condition is one step shy of a full blown emergency.
It will be an “urgent” care facility to treat people who require medical intervention but do not have to go to emergency. That would be for conditions such as ear or urinary tract infections.
The Costco facility won’t open until fall. Dr. Greg Browne, a senior medical director with NL Health, says they will have more information available closer to the opening of what constitutes emergent and urgent.
“It’s also for someone who can’t get in to see their primary care provider or who doesn’t have a primary care provider,” says Dr. Browne.
