Trial dates have been set for three men charged in three separate homicides in St. John’s.
Twenty-three-year-old Robert Belbin is accused of second-degree murder in the stabbing death of 22-year-old Seamus Secord.
The incident occurred on Mayor Avenue in the Rabbittown area of the city on Feb. 7th, 2023.
Six weeks have been set aside for the jury trial which is scheduled to start in September.
Belbin is also in the midst of separate provincial court trials linked to a string of shootings in the metro area in the summer of 2022.
Meanwhile, 30-year-old Brandon Tobin is charged with manslaughter in the death of his 82-year-old grandmother, Mildred Brake.
She died in her Mitchell Court home in March of 2022.
Tobin had a lengthy criminal prior to the incident, having served time in federal prison for drug and weapons offences. He’s also facing a separate, unrelated charge of escape and being at large without excuse in provincial court.
Six weeks have also been set aside for his manslaughter trial, which is due to start in November.
And the two-week jury trial for 53-year-old Desmond Downey is also set for November.
Downey is charged with manslaughter in the death of a 71-year-old man, which also occurred in March of 2022.
He faces a recent and unrelated charge of theft under $5,000 in provincial court.
Downey is the only one of the three not in custody.
