RCMP-issued body armour, two sets of handcuffs and a canister of pepper spray, recovered from a home on St. Teresa’s Court off Mundy Pond Road during an RNC operation on Saturday morning, had been reported stolen by RCMP the night before.
RCMP say the theft was reported to RNC immediately, and the investigation quickly identified those responsible for the crime and the location of the property.
The RNC investigation led officers to the home on St. Teresa’s Court, and with warrant in hand, they conducted a search of the property for the stolen equipment.
The recovered items had been taken from an unmarked RCMP vehicle parked at a residence in St. John’s.
The matter is now under internal review by the RCMP.
