A 64-year-old man was taken to hospital after running into medical trouble in the woods near Hann’s Lookout in the Bay of Islands on the weekend.

The RNC and local emergency responders were called into action in the Irishtown-Summerside area around 1:40 Sunday afternoon.

RNC say the man was located with the help of a local ATV driver who happened upon the man and helped to direct emergency responders to the scene.

The Bay of Islands Search and Rescue Team co-ordinated a helicopter to get the man out of the area.

RNC say the successful rescue highlights the importance of travelling with a cell phone, or other another means to contact officials, and having first aid on hand.

Police are thanking all the agencies involved in the search for their help.
