Tariffs on Canadian goods heading into the United States was all the buzz at a high-end food show in Las Vegas this week.
A delegation of about 20 Canadian companies attended the Winter Fancy Food Show, and Danny Dumaresque of Labrador Gem Seafoods was among them.
He says the prospect of tariffs on the product he sells south of the border will have a devastating impact on his business.
“Fifty per cent of my production from Ramea goes to the United States,” says Dumaresque “any time you have that kind of dependance, if you have to reduce your prices, and obviously reduce your profit margins, then it makes it more difficult to have a viable business model.” They’re now trying to find more inroads for their value-added products, “where sometimes you can get a better margin.”
