Federal Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre says he will impose mandatory life sentences on people involved in the mass distribution of fentanyl if his party is elected.

Poilievre says the sentences will be imposed on anyone involved in the trafficking, production and distribution of over 40mg of fentanyl – which he argues is enough to kill 20 people.

He will also impose 15-year sentences for traffickers caught with between 20 and 40mg.

He likens making and selling fentanyl to “mass murder,” and argues that the sentences should be the same.
