Members of the Innu Nation are congratulating Vale Base Metals on completion of its Voisey’s Bay Mine Expansion Project.
The company first announced its intention to expand the existing mine site to include underground mining in 2018.
Since then, the company has pumped close to $3 billion US into expansion of the mine to increase production of high demand critical minerals like nickel, cobalt and copper.
Deputy Grand Chief Chris Rich says the Innu Nation, which has an Impact and Benefits agreement with Vale, wishes the company continued success.
Voisey’s Bay is on land shared by the Innu Nation and the Inuit of Labrador.
Vale is hosted a celebration event to mark completion of the underground mine at the Sheraton Hotel in St. John’s today.
