RCMP say the injuries suffered by a snowmobiler who reportedly fell from his machine while crossing a pond on Friday do not appear to be consistent with the fall.
RCMP say two snowmobilers were travelling across Gravel’s Pond near Port au Port together, when one of the men reportedly fell from his machine. The other snowmobiler checked on the other operator and discovered that he was seriously hurt.
The injured snowmobiler was taken to hospital for urgent medical attention and remains in hospital.
Family members say the man has had surgery to remove metal fragments from his head, with more medical intervention expected.
Police say the injuries suffered are not consistent with a fall, and the cause of the injury is under investigation by Major Crimes.
RCMP are asking the public for any possible surveillance images between Gravel’s Pond and the Main Road in Port au Port between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 21st.
