No arrests have been made, and no suspects brought in following a fatal incident on Bond Street in St. John’s Tuesday evening.
RNC Media Relations Officer James Cadigan could not say much about the investigation when speaking to media this morning, as it’s still in its infancy.
Cadigan says a 23-year-old man was taken to hospital on Tuesday evening, where he was later pronounced dead. The body is now with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death.
The RNC’s Major Crime Unit has put together a Major Case Management Team to carry out the investigation.
Cadigan says there is no concern for public safety as they believe it was not a random act.
Despite images of what appear to be a handgun near the scene, Cadigan could not confirm whether the firearm was real, or used in the incident.
He says police are asking anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage to come forward.
He says it goes without saying that video footage is very valuable evidence. Any information they can gain from the assistance of the public has certainly led them in the right direction in many past investigations.
The investigation continues.
