A new survey from TD Bank shows that those aged 13-28 are the most susceptible to scams. The poll also showed that more than half wouldn’t report the scam to authorities.
March is Fraud Prevention Month.
Jeff Horncastle of the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre told Nancy Snedden on Your Money on VOCM that more young people are falling victim to scams that involve investing money through crypto-currency online or through social media.
“One of the main variations is crypto investment fraud. Whether the victim is doing a Google search and they’re looking for crypto investments and they click on the first result or they see an ad on social media, they might get a message from someone who they think is a friend on Facebook,” he said.
“We have to remember that their account could be compromised. So it’s just a matter of taking the time to do as much research as you can, take a step back if you have to.”
