Metrobus along with the City of St. John’s have big plans to find balance and improve service when it comes to public transit.
A transit review that cost the city around $100,000 was released today from Dillon Consulting.

The 130-page review includes research, analytics and survey results from consultations and information gathered through the City of St. John’s.
Some of the issues identified in the review were long wait times, a need for more frequent service, and better snow clearing at stops.
Councillor Ian Froude says the city wants to encourage more people to ride the bus by improving the transit system as a whole, with more frequent stops, improved services, and through investments.
He believes the transit system could be something that people can look forward to using, if it’s presented correctly.
Froude says the biggest constraint on the system is frequency of service.
The review was launched following the city’s 2018 budget. Froud says their goal is to have recommendations ready from the Transportation Commission and sub-committee when it comes time for their budget planning in December.
There is a balance needed with the public transit system that will allow frequency of rides (intervals of ideally 15 minutes) and support of the public transit culture.
Froude says they are unsure when the report will be tabled. First it needs to be tabled with the commission. pic.twitter.com/4vu26CE6aj
