Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey has gotten his wish.
Prime Minister Mark Carney has followed through on a campaign promise, eliminating the carbon tax. The next increase would have come on April 1st.
The carbon tax costs 17 cents per litre of gasoline, 21 cents per litre of diesel and 15 cents per cubic metre of natural gas, according to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.
Canadians will receive the next carbon rebate cheque, due to come out by the end of the month.
Premier Andrew Furey posted to social media saying “this is exactly what Canada needs,” noting the tax was “not the right tool to tackle climate change.”
