The number of influenza cases in Newfoundland and Labrador has soared.
Information for the most recent reporting period, which ran from March 2-8, indicates that one person has died from influenza. There were 61 people in hospital with 10 in the ICU.
In total, there were 181 cases of influenza during the last reporting period, well above the five year average for the same week at 36.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janice Fitzgerald recently acknowledged that the province has seen a spike in cases, and is hopeful that the number of cases has peaked and that they will soon be on the decline.
