Traffic issues dominated the conversation at a town hall meeting on public safety in Kenmount Terrace last night.
MHA Sarah Stoodley, city councilor Ian Froude and RNC Chief Joe Boland were all in attendance to hear concerns from residents on various issues relating to public safety.
Concerns around break-ins and how to properly report crime were heard, however much of what was said revolved around traffic issues. The topics of noise levels, speeding and the resources the RNC have to properly enforce the rules of the road were all discussed at the meeting.
Chief Boland says one of the things the RNC will be doing to address traffic concerns will be the creation of a police and traffic committee.
He says a representative from each municipality will sit at the table with RNC representatives to discuss traffic issues in their area. As well, each municipality will contribute money towards the purchase of four new RNC vehicles.
Boland says it is important to have representation from the community.
He says municipal leaders often have more insight into the issues than the RNC does because people may be reluctant to call police about an issue, but they will call their city councilors.
He says it is important for municipalities to be actively involved in the programs the RNC is implementing.
