Fisheries Minister, Gerry Byrne and Premier Dwight Ball are meeting with the CEO of Mowi—Northern Harvest’s parent company—this evening at Confederation Building.
Byrne says he hopes it will be a productive meeting, and will speak with the CEO on how they intend to do business in Newfoundland and Labrador, and that they have reviewed license conditions, accept them, and understand they have a responsibility to fulfill them.
Byrne says they have a number of new license conditions and policies that provide greater support, protection of the environment and capacity for the industry to grow simultaneously. He says these have to be respected and he wants to hear that directly from the CEO.
Byrne says additional information has to be received and the investigation complete before any licences are reinstated.
