Workers in the manufacturing and exporting sector now have access to training to help them learn about artificial intelligence.
Government is providing more than $1-million for a specialized training program through Keyin College, which will be available to members of the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters Newfoundland and Labrador.
The micro-credential program will focus on how AI can be used in a manufacturing environment.
PolyUnity Tech is a Newfoundland-based company that uses 3D printing to help address the demand for parts and items needed in the health care industry.
President Mark Gillingham says they are seeing AI being used in many aspects of their business.
He says it is being used both in business and at the marketing level, as well as in production. He says the machines they use are AI enabled, and they are also seeing the technology used in their 3D modelling software.
Gillingham agrees that advancements in AI technology are happening rapidly, which underscores the importance of the new program.
He says they need to bring awareness and education to companies, which will lay a “foundational knowledge” for how they can use AI and ultimately become more competitive.
