Premier Andrew Furey is welcoming news from Liberal Leader Mark Carney that he plans to “lower costs by at least half” for Marine Atlantic.
In a post to social media, Furey says he has “long advocated” for such a drop, believing that it will “equal the playing field” for the province.
Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre has said he is open to looking at the Marine Atlantic fee structure, and NDP leader Jagmeet Singh has said he would lower the cost of the ferry service if elected.
This is welcome news from a leader with a clear commitment to listening to Canadians and making decisions that make sense.
I have long advocated for this, and am pleased to see Marine Atlantic fares will be dropped to equal the playing field for our province. https://t.co/F1ZWyK2LGj
