NewCo Metal facilities across the province are looking out for the Amelia Earhart statue stolen from Harbour Grace.
The company has donated $10,000 to be used as part of a reward for the return of the statue to the town.
If that doesn’t happen says operations manager Don Drew, the company will still give the town the money to use towards the replacement of the statue.
Drew says they have sent photos of the monument to all of their yards across the province so that workers can be on the lookout.
Drew says they won’t just be looking out for the physical statue; they will also be watching for its metals.
He says they don’t get a lot of bronze materials, and what they do get is mostly from fishing vessels. Even then, the way the material is forged for a statue would be different.
He says they will be looking for the statue in any shape that it may come in. He says they have a piece of the statue from the town, and they can use their machines to analyze the material and “fingerprint” anything that comes in.
