Heart & Stroke is sad to hear that the province’s tax on sugary drinks is being repealed.
Heart & Stroke’s Vice President for Newfoundland and Labrador, Katie Greene, says they support policies that help consumers make healthier choices.
She says a higher price on certain items may nudge consumers to make different choices. “These policies work best when they’re combined together.
The tax on sugary drinks isn’t going to stall heart disease or stroke in our province by itself, but when combined with healthy living initiatives and programs that address barriers like affordability or access to healthy foods, we see progress in healthy outcomes.”
