RNC responded to reported violence at a number of unsupervised field parties over the long holiday weekend – resulting in some young people being taken to hospital.
RNC were called around 10:30 Saturday night to an incident at a gathering in a wooded area near the Torbay Bypass Road. Officers were provided with information about the potential presence of weapons including bear spray and a firearm. One person was taken to hospital for treatment.
Shortly after 10:00 Sunday night RNC were called to a reported firearm incident at a field party in the Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove area. The Constabulary says people in attendance would not co-operate with responding officers and no additional information was provided.
In the meantime, patrol officers were called to a reported weapons offence at a field party in the Goulds shortly after midnight on Monday morning.
Responding officers were told that a group of young people arrived with weapons and several people had been exposed to bear spray. An ambulance was called to help those affected.
No arrests has been made and there is no information at this time to suggest that the incidents are connected. According to RNC, parents should:
- Know where their teens will be
- Have frequent check-in times
- Let your teen know they can call you for help
- Establish a code word to signal help is needed.
Youth are reminded to:
- Never drive impaired
- Never accept a ride from someone who has been drinking or using drugs
- Stay with a buddy
- Have a cell phone with you at all times and ensure that it is charged
- Make sure an adult knows where you are and how to reach you
- Call 911 if you or someone you know is in danger.
