This is Early Childhood Educators Week in Newfoundland and Labrador, a time set aside to focus on those who help shape the lives of our young people.
The government says it is making significant progress in improving the system and reducing costs, but the opposition is not convinced.
The minister responsible, Bernard Davis, says the educators are dedicated to the task at hand.
He says there are 1400 early childhood educators working in the province, and hundreds more are enrolled in programs to pursue that as a career.
Education Critic Paul Dinn says the government has failed to address many issues in the system.
“Accessibility and inclusivity remain a concern for many,” says Dinn.
He added that red tape is restricting operations, and many childcare deserts still exist in the province.
