A Newfoundlander is receiving world recognition for his amazing safe-cracking feat.
Stephen Mills, originally from Baie Verte, lives in Fort McMurray. He took a family camping trip on the Victoria Day weekend to Vermilion, Alberta.
He took his family on a tour of the local museum, and in jest, tried the combination 20-40-60 on a safe that had not been opened in 40 years.
Mills says that the museum hired locksmiths, contacted management of the hotel from which the safe originated and even called the manufacturer all in an attempt to get it opened. Yet, it was Mills’ random attempt that finally got it open.
Mills can’t believe the attention his lucky guess has generated. He’s done multiple interviews in Canada, the US, the UK and even Colombia that was translated into Spanish.
