The Miawpukek First Nation has put forward a written request to the Speaker of the House of Assembly to address MHAs on racism.
The request follows a condemnation from the First Nation’s Council of what it concluded were racist remarks recorded at a Salmonid Association of Eastern Newfoundland meeting last year.
Chief Mi’sel Joe says they have accepted too much for too long. As such, he invites the creation of an ongoing dialogue between the province, Indigenous leaders, and all their community partners.
He says it must be an ongoing effort, because a solution will not be achieved with a few discussions.
Chief Mi’sel Joe says racism has been alive for years, and will take just as long to abolish.
