The RNC is warning retailers and other organizations about new attempts by scammers to part them from their hard-earned money.
The Constabulary has received a number of calls from local business owners and organizations who are being solicited in a number of ways.
Constable James Cadigan says in some cases, businesses are being sent emails that are spoofing legitimate business organizations offering them a special deal on sporting or event tickets, and seeking a deposit to hold the seats.
In another scenario, businesses are being sent messages advertising an upcoming craft fair and seeking a deposit to hold a table for what turns out to be a fake event.
Cadigan is urging anyone who receives such a message to do their homework.
“These are more scam tactics and techniques that we’re seeing, and it goes to support the need to research, take your time, don’t feel that you need to rush, and if in fact an agency is contacting you about an event at a specific location, you can contact that location directly to confirm legitimacy.”
