Music NL is urging people to contact their MPs as a significant amount of funding for the industry is set to expire.
Executive director Tamara Kater says the $16-million is part of a top-up that was given to the music industry.
However, if that part of the funding expires, they warn that national organizations like FACTOR and Musicaction could lose half of their support for Canadian artists.
Kater says those funds get distributed at a local level, and are used to put off events such as Music NL Week.
She says without the money there’s a lot of business development that will not happen.
She says the fund helps people make contact with the global market place, and supports artists in finding publicists and festivals to perform at.
The federal budget will be delivered on November 4th, and with weeks to go Kater says they need people to speak up now by filling out an online application.
