An annual holiday campaign that helps women who are experiencing homelessness is back for another year.
The Shoebox Project for Women puts together a package full of essentials and self care items, such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, and a diary, and distributes them to shelters who give them to women and gender-diverse people in need.
Caitlin Lyall, the local coordinator of the program, calls putting off the initiative the “best feeling ever.”
She says it is a lot of work because getting the donations and community engagement can be difficult. However, she says when they are able to give gifts to every woman at the shelters they partner with, it is an “amazing feeling.”
