It’s going to be another messy evening across much of the island with snowfall and high winds forecast for the Avalon and central and snow squalls on the west coast.
The snow is falling over the Avalon and while accumulations might not be high, it will be blown around by high winds overnight.
The snowfall will ease off this evening before picking up again overnight.
Blowing snow advisory for metro
Environment Canada meteorologist Rodney Barney says wind warnings and a blowing snow advisory are in place for metro.
He says winds out of the north and northwest will gust to about 100 to 110 km/h overnight.
Barney says temperatures will drop overnight as well.
Winter storm warnings in place for central
Meanwhile, winter storm warnings are in place for central Newfoundland, extending from the Connaigre to the Bonavista peninsulas. Snowfall amounts will range from 10 to 15 cm with winds gusting from 70 to 90 km/h.
Snow squall watch in place for west and southwest coast
A snow squall watch is in place for the west coast for tonight and tomorrow.
“We’re looking at off and on snow squalls and some poor visibility in those squalls with gusty winds and more than 10 cm of snow is possibly, depending where they set up.”
